Mobile number and email on display? But not for other accounts...

Basically, converted by ebay to a business account today, whilst I know the law you have to have an address, however I don't believe it is a law you have to provide a contact number, but oh I thought this might be ebay policy and if I wanna sell on ebay I gotta play their game.

However, I don't feel super comfortable about it, but can't get a new sim until next week for a random number.

But I follow a fair few re-sellers on tiktok/youtube etc, even before I decided to start re-selling as I find it wierdly relaxing watching them go to carboots to find stuff lol. I looked on their accounts. Not a single one has a number or email contact in their about section. However mind has automatically been but there and I cannot remove it.

Why is it one rule for me and not for another then? Ebay have told me they cannot remove it but cannot give me a simple answer on why others do not have it listed.

I guess the first thing to check is are the others sellers you refer to actually on Business Selling accounts?

I remember that feeling when the decision to put phone number and email address on contact details was first made.  I expected my days (and nights) to be interrupted and to be put on the spot.

In what must now be at least five years I've had two phone calls and one email.  So maybe whilst it's an adjustment, psychologically, it won't make any real day to day difference.

I know it won't be a problem most likely, however selling women's clothing you do get some creeps lol

in just baffled how they have decided some sellers can get away with it not being there!

I just got off another long frustrating chat with eBay, which took many times of me explaining it in the most simple way I could and the only answer I got is basically they should have the contact info and when eBay notice they don't they'll take action.

well I don't believe this at all, seeing as I have found over 100 business accounts without their number on, in fact I'm yet to come across one in my category of selling that does have any number on display!

Yep, found over a hundred in my category alone that don't have a number, and almost all no email, a couple did.

@desired97clothing

I questioned this, check this thread out.

No real reason as to why some business accounts have to display and others don’t.

I wonder if its grandfathered in.

So if the business account was created prior to the number/email being required - it doesn't show.

@jonat_broad I think you may well be right.  I remember getting a phone call when it was being introduced and it was at the time optional.  I felt quite reserved about it but decided to give it a try thinking I'd need a work sim card never have though.

@jonat_broad I think you are correct, switched to business about 15 years ago.

I do not either, no phone

I had an irate Italian shouting abuse down the phone a few years ago. As used the landline although might start to put the landline on as not giving my number out ti anyone.
