I want to refund the buyer but it said they cant accept my card.

The title refers to a  thread over on the member to Member to Member Support board, to which I can't reply.

I had a customer return a purchase.  The refund would not go through because of a glitch and my buy was starting to get anxious thinking I was kicking for touch.  I rang CS who sorted out the refund for me.

They didn't refund the £9 transaction fee, so I rang CS again who assured me this was in error and it would be sorted at the beginning of the week (last week).

Next, I've got a defect for an out of stock item! Plus, they didn't refund the £9 ebay transaction fees.

How can I have an out of stock item when it's been returned.   Beggars belief.

Fuming doesn't sum it up.

With all the aggro currently going on, don't know if I even want to bother.
Fed up.

This doesn't make much sense.

Did the buyer open a return/dispute on eBay?  If so then contacting eBay to make the refund may have resulted in the return/dispute being closed without seller resolution which would explain why you received a defect and didn't get your fees credited back.  However, if that was the case then it wouldn't have been recorded as 'Out of stock'.

If eBay just cancelled the transaction as 'Out of stock' then, whilst that would again have incorrectly resulted in a defect, you should have automatically received a fee credit with the exception of the fixed 30p charge.

Hi, and thank you for the reply.

It was just a straight return, via eBay.  Reasons given as didn't fit, but the system wouldn't let me issue the refund.  I'm going to contact CS later and will let you know how I get on.

Spoke with CS who agreed the defect was given in error.  She couldn't remove it but I was put through to Ireland who confirmed that it would be gone within 24 hours.

So, as a message to anyone who are being told by bog standard CS a defect will be removed, it appears they can't actually do it!!
