i also just received email from ebay 1st april stating id gone over the vat threshold and i need a vat number erc, my sales report showed as 85,100 at the time the email came through, i contacted ebay by phone and advisor agreed my turnover was 85,100 so he couldnt understand why i got the email, he has forwarded it onto the payments department who were meant to email me straight back but they havent done so, i bombarded te with complaints as this has caused me pure hell all week, i ended all my listings that were due to finish, so im about 4k down now as i usually stop just before the vat limit. ive received 3 emails back all full of different lies from diff ebay reps, one said threshold is 85k, another said everyone who has just changed from a private to business acount will need to provide vat number!!! thats another lie, i stated ive been a business seller for over 15 years, and then another idiot just sent me links on how to apply for my vat number...ebay really havent got a clue, the rep on the phone tried various rolling 12 month dates and all around 85k or under, 2 of the emails today also said my turnover was 85k, ive asked lots of my friends who sell if theyve received a vat email and no one else has. im guessing either ebay or hmrc havent updated the limit to 90k from the 85k last year as te email was sent as soon as id just gone over 85k. anyone else had one for this tax year. thanks
