Re: :-):-) charity shop finds:-):-)

One book and one cd today.

Coming Home CD album by The Soldiers from 2009. 50p.
http://www.cyshp.co.uk/soldiers.jpg

Still At Large HB 1st 1993 by Peter Ustinov. £2.

Very pleased with this, it is quite an interesting find.

It is dedicated to General Sir Charles Guthrie who was head of the UK Armed Forces for a few years.

The inscription is very funny - "I have said it all in the first volume, so can only reiterate it in a louder voice."

It is actually signed "Sir Peter Ustinov". Maybe just me, but I have not seen him sign with "Sir" before, normally just his name.

Re: :-):-) charity shop finds:-):-)

This is book number 2 that I picked up yesterday afternoon, Again from the Sence charity shop for a pound. A signed hardbacked 1996 first edition copy in excellent condition of David Malouf's "The conversations at Low Creek".
David George Joseph Malouf (born 20 March 1934) is an acclaimed Australian writer. He was awarded the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 2000, his 1993 novel Remembering Babylon won the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in 1996, he won the inaugural Australia-Asia Literary Award in 2008, and he was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Malouf was born in Brisbane, Australia.

I'm really impressed with your charity shop find. Malouf is a very good writer -- I like his philosophy on spatial  / contextual influences ( always reminds me of Wilbur Zilinski the American cultural geographer )

If you found it in the Sense shop at the top of Broadway, they are always worth visiting. I once picked up several novels by Bohumil Hrabal, the Czech writer there ( sadly, unsigned ).

That's the very shop Patrick, I've found all kinds of signed books in that one. Probably my favourite shop to browse.

Re: :-):-) charity shop finds:-):-)

Another great find Alex, look forward to seeing your 3rd find.

I love the diversity of stock in charity shops. With books especially, I use finding them signed as a reason to read books I might not normally try, and have had many pleasant reading experiences as a result, and found out about many interesting people.

I found another signed cd for 50p today. This Is For Real by Pink Grease. A 5 piece rock band from Sheffield. I did wonder if they may have been a local band as strangely after picking this up in one charity shop, another down the road had 2 more signed copies at £2.99 each. Can only assume they did a signing in the area. Anyway, having listened to it, what a brilliant album! Really glad I got it. I have scanned the front but there are also a couple of doodles on the inside as well.
