I had to look to see who Walter Ernest How was, Nigel but you're right to admire him. I find any of the explorers from the past extraordinary personalities. To go to the ends of the Earth just because it's there and know there is no chance of rescue should anything go wrong, ( unless you were with Shackleton!), took great courage. I really like the photography of Frank Hurley on the Endurance expedition and would love to get a copy of the classic photo he took of Endurance in the ice. Not cheap though.
