Added an interesting old book to my collection this week. I love finds like this.

Castles In The Air USA HB 1/1 1958 by Irene Castle - £3

The book itself is in fantastic condition with just the dj showing wear.

Irene and her late husband Vernon were dancing stars of their day in the lead up to the First World War, and at their peak were the stars of Irving Berlin's first Broadway show in 1914. Vernon served with distinction as a pilot in the war but was sadly killed in a peacetime flying accident in 1918. Irene continued to perform and made silent films for the next decade. In 1939 Irene's life with Vernon was turned into a film with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers playing the couple.

Irene signed and dated this book with a dedication in 1964. She passed away herself in 1969.

Thats a brill find Nigel, well done mate. I often pick up old books in charity shops in the hope , but nothing yet 🙂
