When I was re-organising some of my photo albums a few months ago I realised I did not have anything signed by Jackie Lane. I kept an eye on auctions and saw damaged items would sell for about a tenner, but the going rate seems to be circa £20. As such, I was pleased to land a nice signed 10th Planet 10x8 for £12.63 recently from a charity auction. That leaves me needing just Jacqueline Hill and Michael Craze of the main Doctor Who companions since1963, both sadly long deceased and commanding high fees when they surface, especially on photos which is my main goal, although I would welcome a lower priced paper based sig.
My other main purchase was a book in Waterstones today. I have been cutting back on my book buying, and have bought very few new books this year to date. This was a must for me though. Last year's debut novel by Rachel Joyce, The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry was easily my book of the year, and will long remain one of my all time favourite reads. I knew her second novel Perfect was out recently, so was thrilled my local Waterstones had signed copies at £4 off, plus it was a Waterstones exclusive edition containing an interview with Rachel added at the end. I discovered my loyalty card still had some points which surprised me as I had not spent much in store since last year, so ended up knocking a further £2.92 off the price. Bargain!
