Quiet Holiday Weekend Thread

As my primary collecting is ttm, I am halfway through my 14th year of not enjoying long holiday weekends. Roll on Tuesday.

I was also busy yesterday, so never did get to any charity shops, and will not today either. Man Sad I will manage to catch the Watford v Forest game on tv, so all is not bad. Smiley Happy Should be a good game.

Hoping to catchup on some requests either this evening or tomorrow morning.

To throw some questions in the mix for members -.

Is there an aspect of your autograph collecting you have not talked about on here?

What has given you the greatest pleasure since you took up collecting autographs?

I will answer these myself shortly.

Answering my own questions.

Although I have collected many, many signed books and sell some I have bought to fund my hobby, when I have the opportunity to get a hot new signed book I have never bought multiple copies for selling on. Until this week - first time I have ever done this and actively bought two spare copies for selling. I may do this more often in future.

The hobby has given me pleasure in many ways, but the greatest pleasure has come from building friendships with other collectors, and some wonderful letters and communications with people I have written to. The greatest generosity came from Ingrid Pitt who was such an incredible soul and is still greatly missed. When Kelly and Mandy first moved here with me from the USA and we got married, the immigration authority (in their greater wisdom lol) decided we were not in a legally subsisting marriage, and it took a 5 year battle to get their indefinite leave of stay visas. During this period Ingrid offered to get someone she knew who was an immigration lawyer to help us. We did not need the help in the end, but what an incredible offer from someone in the public eye!

What a lovely story about Ingrid Pitt. I didn't know you and your family had had that fight, Nigel. It's quite something for a lady in the public  eye to offer her help in that way.

One of the pleasures of this hobby?

Well, I'm not the most forward of people so, I am surprised at how easy I find it to talk to fellow graphers when standing at stage doors. I've met some interesting people and exchanged info on the good and bad of this hobby. I wish I had the opportunity to do more IPing as it can be a lot of fun.

And of course there are the friends I've made on this forum. There is so much generosity on here and it's nice to escape to a friendly place for a while.

i think the greatest pleasure for me in ttm-ing is writing to someone whom you do not know personally and receiving a reply with your items signed and possibly a letter as well.

Also chatting to and getting help from the regulars on this forum. You've all helped me in some way with my hobby and it is all much appreciated. I had a brief meeting with Jamie (norwich) at this yrs Collectormania event at Milton Keynes. Although we only had approx 10-15 mins chat, it was great to put a face to a name. If any of you guys can get to the next CM20 at MK in Nov, let me know and we'll have to arrnage a meet.

one word FRIENDS who have the same interest its great when a envelope comes through the door BUT if you have no one to show it to its not the same its great to read the comments on results some times its hard to think of what to say but even a "GREAT RESULT " comment is good enough you know YOUR FRIENDS have seen it . .MARY RAND the first ever track olympic gold winner is now a friend as others have said its a great little hobby
IF SOME THING IS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT
USUALLY IS

That was very nice of Ingrid to offer that Nigel - sounds like a lovely woman.

I only started collecting about 2 years ago. It started out with football legend signatures. I always wanted to get the 1966 England signatures on an England top and after that I kept on going. I still get a few here and there, but it is difficult and expensive sending football posters/shirts overseas. I am going to hopefully add to my 2006 Australia shirt this season.

My Muppet collection has become a bit of a crazy obsession. The wife just shakes her head and rolls her eyes when I get more "Muppet Mail", but to be honest I wish I had started it sooner (and I know she loves it really). I remember thinking about writing to Henson people well over 10 years ago, but I never knew were to send them and wasn't sure how to pay for reply postage from the US ( the internet makes things a lot easier). I have had some fantastic replies – it always amazes me how generous people can be when you write and show appreciation for their work and express how this has had a positive influence. I have even had an offer from one performer to come and talk to my class if they are ever this side of the planet (extremely generous and I hope it might happen someday ).

I think the biggest push for me was this forum. I don’t think I would have attempted many of my requests if it weren’t for the people on here and their posts and feedback. Thanks to you all

I've collected football autographs IP since 1975 and TTM since the early 80s,and whilst dabbling with other celebrities,90%+ of my collection is football related.

Don't think there's anything relating to the hobby I haven't discussed ?

My greatest pleasure has been corresponding with members of this group who have been a great help with boosting my collection.I have 4 mates I collect with IP at Plymouth and whilst we haven't had many big name signers of late,it's always good to see what everyone has managed to get on here.
