Nigel Spink success- ttm

Sent one programme, one photo and two index cards to Nigel Spink via Sunderland FC on 19/10 received 21/10. Quick or what!! Nigel kindly signed all my items. Thank you.
Nigel Spink played as professional football as a goalkeeper from 1977-2000 for the following clubs;
Aston Villa 1977-96 (460 app), WBA 1996-97 (19 app), Millwall 1997-2000 (44 app).
Although he moved to Aston Villa from Chemsford City in 1977, he did not get his break in the first team until 1982. When it came it was on the biggest stage, the 1982 European Cup Final against Bayern Munich. Spink came on after ten minutes when Jimmy Rimmer was injured. He performed superbly and Villa went on to win 1-0, thus becoming the fourth English club to win the trophy after Man Utd, Liverpool and Notts Forest. It also continued a run of six European Cups in 6 years for English clubs.
He made one appearance for the full England side on a tour of Australia in 1983, and two appearances for the England B side in 1991.
After retiring he managed Forest Green Rovers 2000-2002. He hten moved into coaching and worked with Steve Bruce at Birmingham and Wigan before again joining Steve at Sunderland in 2009 as goalkeeping coach, where he remains.

Re: Nigel Spink success- ttm

Fantastic three successes for you. Nigel, Big Jack and Francis. The night Spink came on as sub for Villa was one of the all time great football experiences as a neutral supporter. Brilliant game from him, and brilliant team performance.
