I picked up a copy of Jack's autobiography from a discount book store over in Preston a month ago for less than a fiver and sent this over to Jack on the 9th of Augyst. Whilst away on holiday the book has been returned signed by the Manchester United Legend. Jack has also aded a very nice letter too. The best I've ever had back...Love it, What a true gentleman he is,
Did you know who Jack made his debut against?
Debut: 05/01/1946 v Accrington Stanley (Peel Park) 2-2 (FA Cup 3rd Round 1st Leg). I metioned this in my letter to jack and told him I was a seaso ticket holder at Stanley...Glad I did.
John "Jack" Crompton (born 18 December 1921) is an English former football player. Born in Hulme,Manchester,Lancashire, he was a goalkeeper for Manchester United between 1944 and 1956. Having played for Oldham Athletic as an amateur and Stockport County as a guest player during the Second World War, Compton turned professional at Old Trafford in 1944 and was in the United team that won the 1948 FA Cup.
Now aged 90, he is one of the oldest surviving former Manchester United players, one of the last of surviving members of United's successful late 1940s/early 1950s side, and the only survivor from either team in the 1948 FA Cup Final following the death of Johnny Morris in April 2011.
Probably my favourite result of the six whilst away, Thank you ever so much Jack and Sheila Crompton.
