I bought a set of signed Accrington Stanley Chronicle cards a few years ago, 11 out of the 12 were signed and I began the task of tracking down the whereabouts of the player who's card was not signed..These cards were from players from the mid 1950's and the name of the player was Gordon Stones...I contacted the Club, The supporters club, knowing that Gordon had been a guest at a home match a couple of season's earlier along with a few ex players from the past...I ended up contacting the local newspaper "The Accrington Observer" who did have some older players details on file...Got a phone call from the editor saying that they had Gordon's details and he was living in the Bolton area, where he was born, Thay had contacted him and he said t was ok to pass on his telephone number to me...I rang him the next day..he was out playing golf at the local club where he is a member, does a bit of D.I.Y for them as he also had a trade as painter and decorator after his footballing days were over..Spent half an hour talking to his wife on the phone...she knew more about Stanley than I do...Gordon kindly rang me back the same evening and was amazed that someone was after his autograph after all these years, he had played his last game for Stanley in 1959...I sent the card plus an index card off to him the next day and they were returned signed within the week...A similar set of these 12 cards sold on E-bay only a couple of weeks ago but this set was not signed and they made £67...No idea what the signed set are worth but to me priceless..Accy Stanley Supporter :^O.
