Have a read of this. How does this compare to collecting autographs in person at the big football clubs over here?

unbelievable !! doesnt this piece really make ya hope and wish that that young player tyler Austin makes it big, it does me.....it reminds you of all the players in this country who always refuse and wont sign anytime for fans wether its ttm or ip.......that is they wont sign for fans until they have summat to flog like a book or summat and then theyll happily sign to fill their already gold lined pockets.........sometimes they ought to remember where they come from and how thet got where they are cos fans play a massive part in it !!

We all know they can't sign everything but to have a lackey telling the fans how to behave is ridiculous. But then again, that might not be his idea. How often have we read on here about "staff" making things difficult at signings.

Never heard of him Nigel 🙂 . The thing is that these so called "Superstars" of the sporting world should remember that they are "NOTHING" without there adoring fans. They seem to think they are big, and that they don't have to meet the fans if they don't want to........ They are WRONG!! Take Rooney for instance, i can't stand the bloke, never have liked him as a footballer, but fans still wait for hours for ...... Or should i say In the hope that he will sign an autograph for them. The more disappointed a fan gets ...... The less they are adored 🙂 Thats how i see it .
Nice story mate, cheers for the link 🙂 Hope you and the wife are doing ok .

Nice piece and you could easily substitute half of our Premier League players/teams for Jeter. A lot of people argue that it's down to people selling their autographs which makes them stop signing but I still think that the more they are prepared to sign, the less demand there will be to sell items as you can get the person yourself. Many of the stars who moan about people selling autographs are quite happy to get paid for a signing session and then have the items sold at a higher price than most other dealers would charge.
Hopefully there are more Tyler Austins in this world to help all of us collectors!

It's a good point about mass signings decreasing demand Rob. Away from football the likes of June Brown, Barbara Windsor and the late Wendy Richard never turned down autograph requests, and as a result, anyone with common sense would not have to pay much for one of their autgraphs, despite dealers pushing for higher amounts. These autographs are available en masse.
Do you think it can also be an ego thing as well with some of the big names? Knowing they have that power over fans wanting autographs.

#7/8 good point raised r.e flooding the market, a good recent example with a former player who has done this is Denis Law. I've noticed the last 2/3 years he's done more public appearances, more dinners etc and signed alot for free when he used to charge (or charge alot should I say) or moan about signing..some 2/3 years ago signed photos were making a fair £45+ now it seems you can get a 16x12 for about £10-£20, and shirts and books dont fetch as much as they used to either..another way is to dedicate to be honest soon solves the selling excuse by the celebs..totally agree though with others when they say without fans they are nothing and it would be nice if they could give something back, not like we are begging for money or making huge demands its a quick scribble in most cases

Very interesting read, cant see how most of his fans can be arsed with him as I wouldn't get up at 3am for no one...well maybe the wife!
Like most have said on here themselves if it wasn't for people like us paying for skysports, season tickets, football stickers/cards etc they wouldn't be nobody
