A couple of finds earlier in the week.

Called into a local charity shop during the week, The one where I got the bag of books for a £1 at the back end of last year, Hard backed books 4 for a £1. I managed to find a couple signed and a couple of Autobiography's in excellent condition worthy of cheeky TTM requests, Both have now gone out "VV" .

Here are the 2 signed books...could be a busy bank holiday week end so I'll add these now.

First one signed to a book plate on front end page " Best Wishes James Harriot" hard backed first edition from 1992 titled "Every Living Thing". James sadly passed away back in 1995.

James Herriot was the pen name of James Alfred Wight, OBE, FRCVS, also known as Alf Wight (3 October 1916 – 23 February 1995), a British veterinary surgeon and writer, who used his many years of experiences as a veterinary surgeon to write a series of books of stories about animals and their owners. He is best known for these semi-autobiographical works, which are often referred to collectively as All Creatures Great and Small, a title used in some editions and in film and television adaptations.

And finally for all you Wine connoisseurs.....Oz Clarke's pocket wine book from 2009..Don't even ask me why I checked in this one but I did...and glad I did to....Robin "Oz" Clarke is a British wine writer, television presenter and broadcaster

After Oxford, Clarke started a career as a full-time actor and singer. His first job was at Northampton, followed by Sheffield, Manchester and Leicester. He then worked for the Royal Shakespeare Company, The National Theatre, The Old Vic and Chichester. In the West End, he appeared with Michael Crawford in Billy at Drury Lane, sang Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd, played all the men in the Mitford Girls and General Peron in Evita. It was during this acting period that he was drafted in to the newly formed English Wine Tasting Team, who won competitions against France, Germany, and the USA, amongst others. This proved crucial for his career development.
When a wine expert dropped out of the new BBC show Food and Drink, the acclaimed television producer Peter Bazalgette allegedly shouted, 'Get me the actor who knows about wine'. They did, and Clarke's career began to shift away from theatre towards wine, but not out of the entertainment business. He and Jilly Goolden became the voices and faces of wine in Britain for a generation.  Like his sig. Not bad for 25p each. They don't stop o the shelf for this price....I just hope one of the two requests returns in the near future.

Great books Alex - especially the first one. I grew up in 'Herriot Country' - Alf was still one of the town vets and his daughter Rosie was my doctor. I remember Mr Sinclair (Siegfried Farnon was based on him) bringing one of our horses into the pub so he could measure it (he said he couldn't find level ground outside)

Two cracking finds, Alex and good of you to pass the Herriot book on.

#2 Richard. I've looked in many, many books and only found about five and two of those weren't worth it.

Pleased for you Alex, two more great finds for you. They are indeed out there although I am spending less time looking. I am under orders to sell more than I find. One to add tomorrow though. 🙂
