Hello,

Product identifiers are a great way to boost listing visibility on eBay and external search engines like Google.

We’ve already started requiring product identifiers for single-item listings in certain categories. From 31 January, 2016, we’ll also require product identifiers for multi-variation listings in eligible categories. If you have multi-variation listings, you’ll need to take action before then. Our requirement applies to new, revised or manually relisted listings for new or manufacturer refurbished items in the following categories:

  • Baby
  • Books, Comics & Magazines
  • Business, Office & Industrial
  • Cameras & Photography
  • Clothes, Shoes & Accessories (shoes only)
  • Computers/Tablets & Networking
  • DVDs, Films & TV
  • Health & Beauty
  • Home, Furniture & DIY
  • Mobile Phones & Communication
  • Music
  • Musical Instruments
  • Pet Supplies
  • Sound & Vision
  • Sporting Goods
  • Toys & Games
  • Vehicle Parts & Accessories
  • Video Games & Consoles

Note: you’re not required to include product identifiers on used items or listings of collectible, vintage, or one–of–a–kind items.

If you’d like to get a head start, you can already add product identifiers to your multi-variation listings using most listing tools. If you’re using our Bulk Edit and Relist tool, we’ll have this functionality available in December – we’ll let you know when. We’d recommend you update your existing Good ‘Til Cancelled listings as well, to maintain the best search visibility for your listings.

We realise many of you are preparing for the upcoming holiday selling season, and want to reassure you that adding product identifiers to your multi-variation listings remains completely voluntary until after the end of January.
