Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Can I ask you ladies a question please?

How often do you not eat all of your points?

The reason I ask is because if you regularly save points for the weekend (or a takeaway) and use them that is OK, but if you don't eat your points then you are running the serious risk of sending your body into "starvation" mode.

If you are supposed to be on 20 points but you only eat 16 you will stop losing weight and may even start to gain again. This is because your body thinks it is being deprived and so it stores the calories you do give it rather than burning them off. It really is better to try and eat them all and only save points if you need to.

My personal way of doing ww is to eat my daily allowance (currently 18 points) every day. So if we go to the chinese for lunch on Saturday then I have to compensate at dinner to keep to my 18 points. I don't save points unless I know that I will be going to an event where I will have little control over what I eat (ie wedding where the menu is set). For me this works. I also burn off extra points by riding my exercise bike. Currently I ride it for 20 mins Mon-Fri and for 30 mins on a Sunday morning. I also try to have a 15-20 min walk every day just after lunch - though not always possible if the girls are home from school as they don't walk as fast as me and are too young to be left at home! 🙂

So try not to under-eat ladies! Starving is not a healthy eating plan!!

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Well erm, sigh!
I've had 36 points today!
I won't bother writing it all down today but needless to say it all went wrong at brekky!
I just managed to save myself until an hour ago when I made some DIY hotdogs (tinned one's) lol
(allowed 8 points for them).
That 8 has taken me over a tad but still leaves me with 18.5 for tomorrow.
Not bad in my estimations, even if I do say so myself lol.
Done loads of UPhill walking today so hopefully that has helped!
The truth will be revealed by this time tomorrow so I had better be good in the morning!
Goodnight everyone, see ya then:-)

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Hi ivvie and sparkle 🙂

Good news, had my WI yesterday and lost 4 pounds! 😄

ivvie I always eat near enough my points everyday, but with the heat lately I have started to eat slightly less (maybe leaving 2 points a day) but somedays I might go over say 2 points so I reckon it evens out in the end 🙂

I'm similar to you in that if I want to have a takeaway or something I will just take it away from my points. I eat most things in moderation nowadays, my portion sizes are smaller, I just don’t go overboard anymore. So I will have one bag of crisps instead of say 3-4 in one sitting. One thing that I also find great is that now I can say to myself 'Is it really worth the points for crisps/choc bar when you can have x, y and z instead and it would fill you up rather than a quick fix of sugar/carp etc.'

What I have also started doing and this is going to sound really funny, is taking with me to the gym a bag of crisps and placing them on top of the rowing machine because 2000 metres which is roughly 15 mins on the rowing machine burns up about 140 calories which is what is in a bag of crisps! So it’s kind of a metaphor for me to remind myself the hard work I would have to go through to burn off those crisps LOL! :^O

Sparkle how are you hun? Still eating the peanut butter? Hope you get a good WI result. *hugs*

I was thinking about doing the biking challenge in the WW magazine for 7 days, anyone fancy joining me? It’s basically got loads of different food plans and you pick one for each meal (brekkie, lunch and dinner) and you can have one treat at the end of the day. It sounds good and I want another good weight loss next week so I’m willing to give it a try.

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Hi Dark angel & everyone
That's fantastic news 4lb!!!!
You must have been so chuffed when you got on those scales! ((Hugs)) to you
I am still having the occasional PB fix but it's once or twice a week now, instead of daily lol.
Ahem, today was one of those days so 6 points used up just with brekky & i'm now munching on two prawn salad sarnies for another 6 points!
I now have 6 more points available before my weigh in tonight when the munch bank will be replenished with a further 182 points to spend lol.
Loads of fruit & yoghurts in the fridge if I fancy a nibble before then lol
I always have my dinner after my weekly weigh in too (which is an hour later than normal from tonight, EEEEK!)
Sometimes it's hard sitting there talking about food when you could eat a horse between two mattresses! lol

see ya later, hopefully with some good news too! 🙂

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Well, done Dark Angel I got 4lbs of in my third week and was ecstatic for weeks after.

Ivvie, I normally try and save 3 to 4 points per day for the weekend, normally for going out for a drink on Saturday nights. My meeting is on a Wednesday so I only get to save points from Thursday, Friday & Saturday which usually give me 10-12 saved points for going out. The rest of the week I would save maybe 2 points to try and even it all out. Had a wedding and a 18th birthday party at the weekend and I am dreading going for weigh in tomorrow night!! (Definitely didn't have enough saved points for what I ate and drank)

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Hi Everyone

Dark Angel - fantastic.

I'm just back from WI - only 1/2 off but at least I didn't put on again.

Starting to feel like I'm never going to reach my next Silver 7 as was 1/2lb off 2 weeks ago and still 1lb off now!

Ivvie - I nearly always use all my points. Only times I don't is if I'm saving for the weekend or "starving" on a Sun/Mon as have overdone it on Sat!

I usually average maybe 3/4 points under for the week - this week haven't been that well so haven't been hungry which is why I haven't used them up, also the weather does get to me.

I never use any "bonus" points I earn though.

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Hiya's
Leaving in half hour for my WI....Gulp
If there's 6 points in total in a treat size drifter & 1 fox's classic (mini) crunch, then i'm in there by the skin of my teeth!
The yoghurt & fruit idea went out the window earlier as I thought to myself "well, they (the chokky bars) don't weigh much so they won't change my reading tonight"!
I was starvin'! Hubs reckons a dinner won't make any difference to my weigh in but I think it will,
so I always go into starving mode on WI night! lol
Surely if you have a wee salad against a full on meat, tatties & veg it's got to make a difference lol.
Anyway excuses over, the scales never lie!
See yas later, off to kick myself in advance lol

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Morning all,

Come on sparkle, how was the WI? I'm dying to know how you did!

Lily well done, 1/2 pound off is better than on!

I went a bit overboard last night, I managed to do one hour at the gym so earned myself 6 bonus points and was going to have a nice healthy chicken salad but by the time I got to Sainsbury’s they had no chicken left and so by the time I got home me and bf decided to order a pizza and I was only going to have 2 slices and 1 piece of garlic bread which would have been 11 points in total which was ok because I had enough points left over from the day to make my daily total but oh no, we had to wait an hour and a half before the pizza was delivered and by that time I was starving as you can manage, and I scoffed 3 slices of pizza, 2 pieces of garlic bread and a box of potato wedges :_|

So I am trying my best today to eat light, eat loads of fruit and drink lots of water and I know I am going to pay for last night at the gym tomorrow!

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Good afternoon dark angel & co'

WAAHEYY, I LOST 2LB'S this week!!!!!
Chuffed to bits!
(Incidently, those mini time out bars are 2.5 points).
That brings me to a total loss of 10 1/2 lb's!!!
Just 3 1/2 lb's to go to my first stone (of many lol).
Stopped off on the way back from WI & bought myself a chicken tikka, kebab roll (11 points) & later had a bowl of chokky shreddies (3 points).
So I have no choice but to have 24 points a day for the rest of the week lol.
I will seriously drop down next week though & anything I munch next tuesday night will have to come off my new, lower points allowance!
I didn't get time for brekky this morning (unusually), so by lunch time I was ravinous.
Whilst I was preparing the kids lunch I munched my way through 4 crusty rolls with salad & tuna in (Yes, 4!!!).
I made this to be 12 points approx' so I have 12 points for later!
Should be steak, new potatoes & salad tonight although I haven't worked out the points yet!
Fingers crossed!

Hope you are all having a great day!

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Well done sparkle that’s excellent news! :^O

I had my belated birthday work party today (3 months late!) so loads of cakes, choccies, biscuits everywhere and cos it was 'my b-day' I had to have something to eat so I ate a few bites of a shortbread pastry thing with glazed fruit. I didn't even want it or like it. X-(

Too much temptation for me, plus I had to have the leftover pizza from yesterday for my lunch! :_|

Think I shall have grilled chicken tikka on the george foreman with loads of salad. I’m not looking forward to the gym tomorrow!:_|

Hope everyone is doing better than me LOL!

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Hi Everyone

Sparkle - well done, that's totally fantastic!

Dark Angel - PMSL, I did something similar on Monday night!

As you say, any loss is better than none (or a gain!).

Going to have M&S Chicken in Maderia Sauce with new pots & loads of veg for dinner (4.5 points) so have enough left for a yummy M&S Choc Pudding - can't wait!

PMSL too! at you dark angel!
How many times have we done that? lol
The good thing is you CAN repair the damage if you put your mind to it! lol
Mmmmmmm better go & cook my dinner now, all this talk of food is making me hungry now! lol
(still haven't had anything since my crusty roll fix lol).
Will tot' up my points later & will see yas in the morning with my next update.
Have a great evening

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Sparkle well done.

Unfortunatly I have lost nothing which is not surprising seeing as I had to have steriods last week to bring the swelling down so I shall have to really buckle down to it this week, I hate those steroids they always make you put on weight I told the doctor no more of them I also told David to get rid of what was left, I,ll put up with the swelling at least when it goes down my weight will be back to normal it is hard to get rid of the weight when it,s steroids that have put it there, thing is they make you want to eat all the time, and it is not good.

Oh well I,ll leave you all to your healthy eating and wish you all the very best and that everyone reaches their target weight,so with my cup of options I toast you all, Well done everyone.

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Snap Sparkle, I lost 2lbs last night too. Couldn't believe it after my "lost weekend". Going to be really good this week in case it catches up with me. It was definitely the boost I needed to kick start my motivation again.

Quick question, does anyone use the Quorn products, alternative to meat. I tried the sausages which are ½ point compared to Dennys thin pork sausages which are 1½. They were quite tasty and cut the points down brilliantly. Have Quorn steaks to try for tonight, haven't pointed them yet, but they are probably only about 2½ points.

Hope everyone has a good week!!

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Caz, if you need steroids you should take them!

I have a friend who comes to ww with me. She is a long term steroid taker but is still losing weight at a rate of 1/2 - 1 lb a week. The reason? She knows that the steroids make her hungry so she fills up with veggies (no points) and fruit (low points) and doesn't just scoff crisps, biscuits and chokky like she used to. She saves a few points for "emergency chocolate" for when her illness makes her feel really down. Perhaps you could try that? It works for her.

Down be down. Take your medication and snack on filling but healthy foods. Keep coming here for support too.

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Well done Mary, that's brilliant news!
& thanks to you too Caz for the praise.:x

Last night I had a sirloin steak (5.5)
with new potatoes (3)
& peas (1)
3 x onion rings (2)
Which was perfect as I had 12 points to spend!:-)
The only problem was, I had a glass of red wine (1)
& 3 home poured measureas of voddy & diet coke to wash it down (6) lol.
This took me a wee bit over but I enjoyed every mouthful, so what the heck? lol B-)
I have plenty of time to repair any damage (I hope) & have cut back today by having a banana for brekky (1.5)
& I am just munching my way through 2 salad sarnies (5)
I have 16 points left after this lunch, for tonight 😄
This just seems to good to be true!
*double checks addition lol*
Will keep ya posted!

Have a great day everyone :x

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Well, managed to use up my 16 points now (lol).
You don't dare blink around here lol!
No chance of me saving any for the next day here pmsl!
Was gonna have cod in parsley sauce (in a bag) with more healthy things to go with it lol
BUT!!! Ended up having Cod & chips from the chippy lol, still, at only 12 points (without the skin), I still had a mini time out bar & a few choklit raisins!
Bringing my total for today at 23.5 points!
That's it now, take away fever has passed & no drinky poo's for me tonight!
Tomorrow I will use my points on healthy foods ONLY!
I hope lol.
Have a great night everyone 🙂

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Just a quickie as just in & not had tea yet!

Mary - well done.

Caz - re steriods, I totally agree with Ivvie. I was put on them for "2 weeks" and ended up on them for a 6 month stint (twice in 2 years) - which is how I put on weight in the first place as I was starving all the time.

Yes, it's hard to loose the weight but if you need the steriods, please take them or you could be risking other long term problems.

Also, try to stick to your WW diet (you'll probably go a bit over as you will be starving) but you won't put on as much as you would if you were eating "normally" (which is what I did and one of the reasons I put on nearly 4 stone).

Re: *The Nags head healthy eating group*

Thank you for the advice ivvie and lily lass I,ve been on and off the steroids now for nearly three years when I first went on them I told my doctor of my concerns and he agreed that I would only take them when the swelling is really bad and well last week was bad, I could have gone boxing without the gloves, and my feet looked like elephants feet, so I did need them, it,s just so annoying when you get yourself down by 4lbs and just because of a tablet It is all back, I didn,t overeat that much as either Anne or David had to feed me couldn,t get hold of the utensils, still less of this, that was last week this is this week and the weather is great and I can get out and about I even managed to walk to my local shop today so that boosted my ego up a bit, and I am going to a concert this weekend one of my favorite types of music big band sound from the forties, so I intend to enjoy myself there and afterwards at the barbeque( I don,t think I have spelt that right sorry).

But I did weigh myself and I have lost half an ounce so I,m pleased with that, Good luck to everyone else.
