VERY sorry to hear of his passing. He was one of these characters you either liked or didm't like, and I was, and still am very much the former. He had a very droll sense of humour but there was absolutely no spite or bitterness connected with him. He was one of these people you could take home to your mother and who'd be able to make an audience laugh whether it be a working men's club or at the end of Eastbourne pier with not one single "eff" word. True comedians don't need smut or racial prejudice to get their laughs. He was a one off, somebody I always had time for.
