how to choose a courier

I've  sold a computer and ebay set the postage option as "courier". I'm not sure how to choose a courier from the listed options without going outside of ebay. each courier has a figure for compensation according to weight but is this amount what you have to pay to get compensation included or is it the amount of compensation you get (far less than the value of the item)? just using yodel as an example in the pic below:

Couriers' compensation amounts are always just in theory.   In practice they'll try anything and everything to get out of paying up.   You don't have to use ebay's options.   If you find one you prefer just remember to mark as dispatched manually via the dropdown menu for the item on your sold page.

You should have no qualms about going outside ebay.  You have total control then and can choose a courier that covers electronics, which most will not.  And you can choose your compensation level.  You will be charged several pounds to increase  the compensation to a few hundred pounds. But you MUST find a courier that doesn't exclude electronics or you would get nothing for loss or damage.

Sellers are always getting into trouble using ebay's suggested postage when there is absolutely no need to do so.

Buying postage outside ebay also allows you to claim direct from the courier in the case of loss or damage and not having to go through packlink instead.
