Item went faulty

I bought a phone in December as a gift and the seller advertised a years warranty on their page.

a few weeks ago the screen went faulty so I contacted seller and sent phone back.

seller claimed phone had been dropped (which it hasn't) and therefore wasn't covered by the warranty and tried to sell a screen replacement at my cost.

I said no as phone was faulty not mistreated so didn't uphold the warranty and I just asked for the phone to be posted back to me!
can anything be done?

Nothing can be done via eBay, their 30 Day Money Back Guarantee has long passed.

Any warranty offered by a seller is only ever going to be as good as your ability to enforce it and, as you've discovered, you can't.

Is your seller a UK business? If so, contact the Consumer Action Group (the first site that comes up on Google) and ask there if there's a route that you can follow to get a refund here. If you paid with a debit or credit card it should be easy enough to issue a chargeback.
