You don't!
As a private seller you get 20 free insertion listings per calendar month for basic listings (any upgrades are chargeable) and the free part is only for the insertion fee there's still a final value fee of 10% on the selling price including the postage and there's a 20p transaction fee to pay to PayPal too as well as a 3.4% handling fee.
Look out for any promotions on the promo section on your selling page - they have their own t&c's.
