how many weeks should you wait after explaining to seller it was purchased in error on my behalf
i have sent the seller 4 messages

If it was purchased on your account you're still responsible for it. If it was bought from a UK business seller you have a statutory right to cancel. For all other purchases you can only cancel if the seller agrees.
If they agree, they will send you a cancellation request. However many sellers will instead open an unpaid item case. If you don't pay you will receive a non-payment strike from eBay, and your seller will receive a refund of the fees eBay has charged them for the sale.
Either of these actions have to be taken within 30 days of the sale. So if you don't hear anything within that time your seller has probably decided not to bother.
