Return advice was by 2nd Class post, not tracking so no refund

I guess I've been had.

I bought two headlight bulbs which the trader's site confirmed would fit my model of car, but they don't.

I was advised to return them by cheapest way - 2nd class post - and trader would cover my return postage as well as full refund.

Now they are claiming the package still hasn't arrived with them after nearly a month and I have no refund.

With no tracking number I have no proof of postage and no refund.

I guess that is the end of the line.

Why didn't you read ebays money back guarantee.

The seller doesn't get to choose the return postage.  He could have been made to send a pre paid, tracked returns label up front.

If you sent it by standard post and he says he has not recieved it he will not be made to refund.  Ebays rules about sending returns tracked, are for this very reason.
