Bidding/offer problem

I have an item listed as buy it now or best offer. I had an offer and accepted it and the buyer has sent a message saying they have not made any offer and have no idea who has. They think something has gone wrong with the offer/bidding and suggest that it is reported to ebay. Seems genuine, what happens now?
