Bess of Hardwick, who built Chatsworth, who still use the name Cavendish to this day, a relic of her second marriage, and managed to raise a great fortune through her 4 marriages, each of the husbands leaving their estate to her, unusual at the time. She and her last husband were also jailers for Mary Queen of Scots.
Also Les Paul, who pioneered the Gibson solid body electric guitar and played a weekly gig in New York until his death, when he was in his nineties.
