Anyone had dealings with British Gas?

Here's a short saga.

The other afternoon I found ***SHOCK***HORROR*** water dripping from my boiler! It was just a slow drip so I phoned the people that installed it. "He'll be with you tomorrow, it'll be after ten."

It seems to get a little worse so I take the case off the boiler to see where it's leaking. OH NO, it's a plastic moulding and the leak's in such a place as I can't wrap anything round it and being plastic, lotsa plastics can't be "glued".

OK so I watch how it progresses and in 16 hours, there was about an inch of water in a 2 gallon bucket. Not much?

Yesterday, phone goes at 8:45am "He's phoned in, he won't be in today, next Wednesday?" No sooner? "No".

Drip gets worse, overnight from midnight to 8:30am today it has filled the 2 gallon bucket. Getting worried now.

Out this morning walking the dog, I spies a British Gas van and I asked the bloke if I could have a few words. Told him what the problem was, he asked what make of boiler it was and how old and he advised me to phone British Gas and if I told them what was what, they'd treat it as "an emergency" and would come today.

Oh yeah? Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained so back home, I phoned BG about twenty to ten. Spoke to a lady in Glasgow (!!!!) who said a chap would come between 1pm and 5pm. We shall see?

Ten to one, the phone rings, he's on his way. Eventually gets here about 1:25. Looks at job. "Yes, I've got that part on the van".

Would you believe it, job's done, no leak now.

Sooooooo JOLLY WELL DONE BRITISH GAS?

Doncha think that was good service?

We get our gas and electricity from a different provider but we do have British Gas to service the gas boiler and they are brilliant.  When we had our old boiler, the pilot light went out a few times but they always sent someone out to sort it.  They even let us have a fan heater if the the pilot light went out and we had to wait a few hours for an engineer to come.

Sounds good to me.

I had a lot of problems with them years ago regarding a bill. Had really bad service, but thats a different department.

Nice to hear a good service story CD

We have had a service contract with them for well over twenty years and have always found them to be absolutely brilliant.

Because of my disability we are are on some sort of special register and we have never waited longer than 3 hours for an engineer, mostly they are with us within one hour.

On the rare occasion they have not had the required part or have not been able to fix the fault for some reason, they have always left us with portable electric heaters.

I have always found the engineers to be efficient, polite and very helpful.

They may not be the cheapest, but they have always given us excellent service.

I'd say three cheers for the engineer you spoke to, without him you'd still be waiting.

we had the boiler covered on one of those monthly contract things. Didn't stop them ruining the year old boiler on one of the services. Couldn't get them to put it right either.

Then we had wrong advice given from a heating specialist of theirs. Told us we could have the boiler under the stairs, only to be told by the fitter it would break all rules!!!! we had to rip the bathroom apart so they could fit the boiler the next day. Ended up taking BG to the ombudsman to get it all sorted out.

no, can't say I thought they were the best.

Remember this thread?

Went to run some hot water about 11:30 this morning....... cold!

Heating wont work either.

Called BG...... after a couple of hours, a chap turns up and after doing a lot of checking says that it's the gas valve.

Now, when they were here in January, they replaced the part that was leaking but also found a fault with the gas valve so they "re-calibrated" it.

Because they were here in January and didn't replace the gas valve, there's no charge for this job.

Only trouble is, I've no heating or hot water until they bring a new part in the morning.
