Goodbye, WOT (Web of Trust)

Problems arose with WOT, the popular reputational add-on, back in November. It was found by some investigative journalist (I think) that WOT was harvesting and selling data on, without properly anonymizing it first.

Additionally, it seems that a coding vulnerability makes it possible for WOT to install (or be used to install) malware on users' computers, and perhaps even for it to steal banking credentials and the like.

Firefox has now disabled it altogether. A pop-up tells you that WOT will be disabled when you restart Firefox (there was a pre-ticked - never a good thing - box which could be un-ticked to deselect this option. I think.)

Lots of information on the internet - this is just one article:

A shame. I've always liked WOT. I know lots of people don't, of course.

But it worked for me. Or so I thought.
