App not working - update required

Just tried opening the app on my android phone and get the message "this version is no longer supported. Please update to the latest version".  Pressing the "update" goes to Google play but the only options are "Uninstall" or "Open" - no option to update. Pressing "Cancel" closes the app.

I suspect they pushed a new version of the app to deal with the changes introduced overnight but something has gone wrong somewhere.

Anyone else got this issue?

Why have they done this, not everyone has the latest gadgets or devices, surely they must know this, why update something so  that it cannot be used by everyone, should have left it alone, if it ain't broke don't fix it

OK .... what a stupid move ... so now I can only use Ebay when I am sat at my puter !  ... what a way to loose customers !

Thanks for everyones replies and suggestions but I have now closed my ebay account and won't be opening a new one. I'm sure there are many other members doing the same

I will keep my ebay account .... but ... my buying will in all likelihood be halved ... did as much on the app as my desktop ..... hello amazon ....

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder - remember to email customer support about your concerns for the app, and also leave a rating (or adjust your existing rating) in the Google Play Store.

You never know, it might get eBay to change their minds...

The response I got from customer service didn't really explain anything, other than "security concerns".

Of course, the other option, as many are doing, is simply to stop using eBay. I'm getting rid of some bits & pieces, but the recent "buyer protection" is stopping me selling low-value items - I'd rather just take them to a charity shop.

Yes exactly the same here but I can get on to e Bay through Google, it's a strange one!

I've had this issue for at least 1 month, where deleting and re-installing just gives the same 'update' error as before. HOWEVER; I've just returned from holiday in Greece and in my frustration I successfully repeated the same delete+re-install process whilst bored.

Everything WORKED perfectly where I was able to successfully win and pay for an auction which is now in transit to me HOWEVER; on arrival in the UK this morning (25/2/25) I NOTE I STILL  RECEIVE THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE, proving this is a rationalised UK issue. CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN HOW I RESOLVE THIS PLEASE???? I've checked my ebay registration details and they do appear to be correct.

I can’t use eBay anymore due to this update on any device I have, very annoying. What is strange is many people have complained and left bad reviews on the App Store but the ratings are all 4 or 5 stars, as if something has changed them

I think I may have a solution to this problem.

If you’re buying or selling on eBay, you will no doubt get emails from them containing a link to the item you’re buying or selling.

When you do get an email with the link to your item, click on the item link and it will take you to your item.

As the eBay page opens, you will see the annoying message, ‘Update Required’

DO NOT click ‘EXIT’ button with the ‘Update’ box, but simply go back to your email message and click the same item link and you should be taken to your eBay item minus the ‘Update Required’ message.

It’s not a permanent fix, but it should give you access to the app.

I think the app is dead in the water so you just go to google and get into eBay that way so what caused this problem in the first place an not corrected .

Can't do that. When I tried to update and it didn't work I uninstalled and
tried to reinstall and now states my tablet is not suitable for the app
