has anyone found that a bid has been made on an item and you know that you would not have made it

If you haven't placed this bid, then it's either because someone you allow access to your account has placed it, or your account has been hacked.

If it's been hacked, go to Help & Contact and key 'hacked account' into the search box to bring up information on what to do. Then check your device for malware, and change your Ebay and PayPal passwords.

Finally, do a web search for 'staying safe online'. Accounts can generally only be hacked if your password is guessable, or if you've given your password away by clicking on a link in a phishing email.
