i have been searching for a particular item on ebay and had seen an item and communicated amicably with the seller. whilst doing further browsing for similar items i saw 2 other listings with the same photos as the other ebay listing and alerted the seller that other ebayers seemed to be using their images to sell replica items.
Having done this, i then received a message from the seller seemingly accusing me of creating these fraudulent listings to which i had alerted them! ..i explained i had not done so and that i was merely trying trying to help alert them to the fact that others maybe using their images to sell replicas!
i have now received threatening accusations along the same lines once more and have no other option than to defend myself... advice on what my next steps should be would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance.
You don't say what the item is, but ebay has a catalogue with pictures which can be used by any other seller.
Sellers by using ebay, authorise ebay to use the pictures in their catalogue and particularly for new items many sellers do not bother to take their own pictures.
I am not saying that this is the case, but could be a perfectly legitimate explanation.
I would advise not to have any more dealings with this member, do not answer or send any more messages to them.
Your good deed has seemingly backfired in a horrid way !
adding to the advice already given -
"alerted the seller that other ebayers seemed to be using their images to sell replica items."
Another possibility is that you have stumbled upon the same seller using different accounts to sell 'replicas'.
advice on what my next steps should be would be greatly appreciated
Just break off contact with this ungrateful member. If you want, you can add them to your blocked bidders list, and tick the option to block messages from blocked bidders.
