What is your experience
These scams only work because there are gullible people with more money than sense.
If no one fell for these fake items for sale there would be no money to be made and no point in the scammers going to such a lot of trouble to keep one (or more) steps ahead of ebay.
As I am sure that ebay does not get paid any fees by these scammers it would seem that they should have more incentive not to just remove them but close them down permanently.
Those of us who are regulars on here see all sorts of things every day that should not be allowed, but despite constant reports very little seems to happen.
All items which are excluded from eBay's money back guarantee - cars, camper vans, commercial vehicles, boats etc. - are regularly exploited by scammers.
In one day alone we heard of three buyers who each lost over £6,000 when vehicles they paid for turned out not to exist. In a TV programme about organised crime, a senior police officer reported that one criminal gang alone had registered "multiple hundreds" of fake accounts on eBay to place fraudulent listings of this type.
Could eBay do more to warn buyers of the risk? Certainly they could, but they don't. EBay is a jungle!
If you're a potential buyer of anything not covered by eBay's MBG, remember that the golden rule is not to pay anything, not even a deposit, until you have seen the item, inspected it thoroughly, including the paperwork. Then pay in cash, which is the only method of payment that is safe for both buyer and seller.
If a seller comes up with excuses not to accept these conditions, walk away from it.
vehicle scams should be the hardest to pull off as it requires the buyer to hand over a wad of money to a faceless stranger for a vehicle they have never seen or checked out.
They, and campervans, and cars, there are scams galore, and as quick as they are spotted and reported , another pops up.
It's a continuing, logistical nightmare for eBay.
Report function half way down right hand side of every listing.
