Safety issues concerning cheap chainsaw teeth sharpeners

I recently bought what was described as a chainsaw teeth sharpener from one of the many sellers of these items on Ebay. The item cost less than £10 and boasted that it was a fast reliable device for sharpening the teeth of your chainsaw. The device opens up and is supposed to fix to the front of the chain saw and when the saw is operated the device sharpens the teeth within the sharpener.

When I tried this on my chain saws I found that it did not fit properly onto any of the saws and the casing doors would not close properly. The securing plastic slide meant to keep it closed whilst the saw is operating does not offer any form of security and slides open causing the fast turning chain to be exposed and liable to jump from the device. This is so dangerous I dread to think the scale of injury that could be caused to anyone near it. Surely the sale of thes things in the UK cannot be legal and I would advise sellers and buyers to be aware of the consequences of using these things

You didn't buy it in the UK. You bought it direct from a seller in China.

Counterfeit and dangerous items are flooding into the UK from China - often through what's tactfully termed "online auction sites".

Your seller has a distribution base in Walsall, but that counts for nothing. They are based in China, registered with eBay in China, and beyond any UK safety or consumer protection laws.

Before checking location of seller I guessed it was China, I was right.

Afraid to say, if you buy a cheap item from there, you get what you pay for.

As listing said item was located in UK, worth contacting Trading standards to report it.
