Hi, I was currently looking for a GPU and i try to secure a 3060ti on eBay, i don't use eBay that much so I was not aware of this photos scamming **bleep** where they write in small Caps on the description that its a "Jpegfile of a GPU only" but they sell it and advertise it as they would selling a real GPU and charge £460 for it. I am an idiot to fall for it, but this is also such a dick move from the seller to do this and i think I deserve my refund back because that's so dishonest and ill-intention. I tried to contact eBay about it but they seem not to give a shizzle about it, saying things like ermm well you have to wait for the item to arrive and you have to contact the seller about it , but the seller is currently unreachable either has been band, deleted his account or been reported/flagged but eBay really doesn't want to look into it so I feel kinda hopeless. I also filed a dispute on PayPal but I just don't have a lot of trust in it... I dunno some people will probably say I deserve it for being so stupid but I just didn't expect that there would be people like this on eBay that is trying to take advantage of others excitement and desperation to secure a high demanding item and I have been caught off-guard due to my lack of knowledge in this platform (now I know....). I just wanted this GPU to make my first ever pc build and this killed it hard for me, i mean maybe he hasn't done anything legally wrong but morally yes, if he wants to sell a picture he should make it clear its a picture not write the spec down of the GPU selling it like its the real thing and then writing down on the description at the very bottom with small cps sneakily saying its a photo. eBay is basically just supporting scammers by letting these things slide and I think i have lost the trust in this platform I just want to hear other people opinion and if it happened to them before or what should I do and if the PayPal dispute is a good idea
Why Paypal, why not the Ebay Money Back Guarantee?
With Ebay the seller has to provide a Reply Paid Label if they want item returned or seller just has to refund. If however item and seller have been removed then you have to use Paypal., but you have to pay return postage.
There are many of these expensive items which clearly state that it is only a photo for sale but buyers still fall for them.
It is difficult to tell as many of the bids are just to punish the seller with a high selling fee with no intention of paying, assuming that the conman will not open an unpaid case, drawing ebay's attention to their scam.
well, his account got completely removed for some unknown reason, I didn't even report him which suggests he must have deleted it maybe. It seems that eBay just let PayPal handle it which is till currently waiting for further information from hen telling me if they can get my refund back. Yes i agree with you some do make it clear its a photo only but this guy didnt say it was a photo apart from in the description when he says jpeg file but he just wrote all the information down like it was a GPU in the technology catagory and the about item was the spec of a GPU not the size quality of the photo , shows real ill intention but hopefully its sorted
What is important is the category he listed the photo in and the item specifics he used. If these were for the physical item then the listing was misleading and you have a valid claim, regardless of any wording on the listing saying it's a photo.
Presumably you opened a case for item not as described, and you will then have to return the photo at your cost. That shouldn't be too expensive!
yes, this is what I'm hoping Paypal Looks into because I have message countless times on eBay support that the information is misleading due to displaying the stats of the card not the information about the picture... hopefully this gives me an edge so I can get my refund back..eerghhhh it's just I hope they look into it as more of a moral point of view... I dunno but one thing for sure I'm an idiot for falling for this. £460 down the drain...
Digital items with no postage option are not covered by eBay's money back guarantee, but they are by PayPal. But you need to forget morals, that's like saying they should cover you because you got carried away, they cover what the buyer protection says they will. You should probably phone PayPal and discuss it.
