Good point Archie. I think we should all feel guilty about our part in the destruction of our planet. For years we have lived the consumer lifestyle without considering the consequences. Governments and the big conglomerates appear to be deaf and blind when it comes to the state of the planet...too much money at stake. But we can all do our little bit. I haven't flown anywhere for years, and I won't use a car if I can walk. I buy British when I can to refuse air miles and I don't buy cleaning products in plastic bottles that have to be thrown away. There is a company that sells cleaning products in little dissolvable pods that you just pop into your empty bottle with some water..brilliant! I have some shampoo in a bar, like soap, but I haven't found a nice conditioner in a bar yet. It's those rows and rows of plastic bottles that do it for me..they are not recycled where I live...they are shipped abroad . Why should other countries have to deal with our rubbish?
Also....I try not to use those peel off plastic bags for my fruit and veg....I am making some little crochet bags that I can re use for my fruit and veg..and wash if they get a bit grubby. I feel that we owe it to our kids and grandkids to do our bit...however small.
I found it heartening to see the kids demonstrating, but I did wonder how many had been driven there in gas guzzlers, and how many would be happy to sit in a cooler classroom to save on gas emissions.
Do you folks have any other little ways we can help save our planet?

I think that encouraging children to challenge "authority" by skipping school is a bad thing no matter how laudable the the objective.
There's far too many examples of young children being involved in quite serious crimes all showing a lack of respect for society, property and other people in general.
The "activists" are using children to further their own ends and after seeing that one group is creating about the use of wool, I think that is another step on the road of appeasement for all sorts of do-gooders!
It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
Live long and prosper.

It lifted my heart to see young people protesting about climate change,Didn't take long for the conservatives to patronise and belittle them,Seems the young already know who's on their side, just a few years the'll be casting their votes

For children to bunk off school in order to protest against climate change? I think it is a sad day to see children telling adults to pull there fingers out on what is a completely preventable phenomenon! It was also sad to hear some of the things they were chanting and that some of them carried socialist worker placards, in my opinion the time has come for us to get a grip on climate change and air quality etc etc. And whilst our government is totally preoccupied with Brexit surely they need to set an example to the rest of the world. Whether you agree or not with children striking to make a point don’t you feel a smidgen of guilt about the state of our planet?

People should be embarrassed or even pilloried for conspiring to indoctrinate children into believing the World is going to hell, that climate change with be the death of us all and that we can actually have a significant influence on it!!! "Completely Preventable Phenomenon" you say; are you freekin serious? You truly believe that we are so significant that not only are we to blame for all that we encounter but it is also completely within our control. If such notions were not so seriously damaging it would be laughable but this is not laughing matter. Our lives are impacted and controlled heavily by a bunch of people trading on doctrines and scaremongering. If they concerned themselves with air quality or pollution of waterways/oceans then we should be all ears, these are things we can actually affect, and in turn perhaps lead to a greater environmental impact, but of course the pathway chosen is that which religion takes so well, dream up a message that cannot be proven and tell everyone they are going to hell if the don't comply. We can't even measure the impact any of our efforts have on climate change so we could never know whether our efforts have been significant, but we can measure air pollution and waste disposal. To get anywhere we need goals that are achievable and measurable rather than half-baked! Our planet is in a very good state; could be better, could claim it's certainly been worse. At least in the developed World waterways are a lot cleaner, fossil fuel emissions are cleaner, progress is made with renewable energy although these will only ever provide for part of our energy needs. People with placards solve nothing, we need practical solutions to tangible problems. I'm surrounded by uselessness!!!

A message for school climate strikers from the Tories:
Sounds more like a dodgy health & safety film, most of those Tories criticised these same kids on their first strike a few weeks back - "for missing classes" and "disrupting other kids who want to learn" Shame they didn't speak to some of the protesters,But i can see this video being a turning point in encouraging young people to join the Tories.......

I agree the state of our planet could be greatly improved if every person took a pride in it and cared for it.
It does have an inbuilt ability to replenish, thankfully.
Children protesting are sadly only following adult example.
