MPs face fury as they get 11% rise: £7,600 pay hike leaders called 'unthinkable' and 'impossible' will go ahead

  • Hike will see MPs' annual salary rise from £66,396 to £74,000
  • The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority is expected to sign off the increase this week
  • IPSA is likely to propose the £4.6m cost of the increase is offset by an intensification of its crackdown on perks
  • MPs can no longer vote on IPSA decisions after the expenses scandal
Prime Minister David Cameron described the proposed 11% pay hike as 'unthinkable'

An obligatory £7,600 pay rise is expected to be given to MPs this week – despite the furious objections of all three party leaders.

The Commons pay watchdog is expected to cause public outrage by pressing ahead with an 11 per cent hike, which David Cameron previously described as ‘unthinkable’.

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority will sign off on an increase in MPs’ salaries from £66,396 to £74,000 – and try to defuse criticism by toughening its crackdown on perks such as taxis and hotels.

But even though Nick Clegg has said that MPs should decide themselves whether to take the increase, and Ed Miliband has vowed to cancel it if he wins the next Election, the watchdog made clear last night that MPs would not be able to turn down the rise.

You have to feel sorry for them being forced to take a rise out of the spongers tax pot when we are forced to have less, getting the good end of the stick again .Isn't it aweful being skint (thanks Al for putting up the real wages they get )

Its all those dossers faults you know on welfare why we are skint, the tax spongers pot isnt for them is it,we need people like IDS in politics to make the poor suffer for being here he enjoys bullying them and should be PM.

Honestly though, when is the public going to get up and be democratic and get rid of this sham ? Richard Branson created more work/jobs and wealth for this country than the last 3 governments put together, surely someone like that is the benchmark for any political wannabe ?

I do not understand the people ,but the govs do don't they..your all quite easily led and fed .

MPs pay rises are linked to Civil Service pay rises.

Civil Service wants 43% but by jiggling the figures by increasing the London and graduate allowances since these don't count as pay rises. Furthermore, the Outstanding Merit Awards (every civil servant gets it) should be increased and the number of civil servants decreased by creating independent trusts.

This way the same pay rise will look to be only 6% a year.

So what percentage was that 11% originally

Ive just been wondering how wage and welfare caps for years can be imposed by mr cameron ''our leader'' yet when he says no to pay rises out of the tax pot for them, someone can say ''sorry we don't need to do what you say,...your having a pay rise'' .I mean is he in charge or not??

Or even worse are his crew the commitee that he has to bow down to ?

What the hell is ''we are all in it together ''supposed to mean to him ...bet he choked on his toast at breakfast the day he came up with that one (if indeed it was him)

ps..why hasnt tony blair and gordon brown been beheaded for treason yet lol
