Tax to be registered online, but there must still be lots of people who don't own/can't use a computer.

A further step in divding the country between those who are computer literate and online and those who aren't and so find it difficult to access most services.
And there are still those who would say that an internet connection is a luxury and the low incomed should do without.

A bit of clarification now:-
"Just like now, you'll still be able to buy it online and at the Post Office, you just won't get a physical disc. You'll still get a reminder in the post a few weeks before it runs out. And you'll be able to check how long you've got left online too. For the first time you'll also be able to pay by direct debit, for an extra 5% administration fee."
The extra 5% is less than the current extra for only buying a 6 months disc but the DD is spread over 12 months.

Companies who make tax disc holders must be fed up.

We can pay for a tax disc in a post office , or pay for it on-line.
But whichever method we choose - we still get a round paper disc to stick on our windscreen.
And when we peel off the old disc, and attach the new one, don't good feelings arise?
Feelings that may not have a sexual intensity.
But which are deeply satisfying, as we stand back, and contemplate the new disc .

I suppose in the future there'll be people who'll collect Tax Disc Holders and even the old discs?
They'll be after a disc with a "rare" Post Office stamp or a "rare" date in a similar way to collecting old Postage Stamps?

It would be better if you had to pay extra on petrol.. that would do away with the doggers.. you need fuel to drive your car.. so you would be paying road tax everytime you drove your car..

I dont know about the Uk ..but in Northern Ireland we still have the MOT and PSV disk to put on the car window..
