Since the sinking in the channel where 31 people have drowned some have been criticising the situation saying that those people escaped "something terrible" only to lose their lives seeking a better future.
BUT... if they'd reached France they'd already escaped what they were running away from? How many countries had they already crossed where their situation was better and they wouldn't suffer whatever was "horrific" or "terrible" where they'd come from so why didn't they stay in one of the countries they'd crossed instead of risking everything trying to cross the channel to get here?
Has this country been promoted abroad as the land of Milk and Honey?

Very irresponsible to take children on such a dangerous journey.
What I don't understand is why our government is paying the French so much money to stop this when it appears they are encouraging it let alone preventing it.

This country is a shambles. I keep saying I don’t have a problem with legal immigration but actually I do. The problem I have is the erosion of British culture, respect for law and order, women, manners, hard work, property, wealth creation, education, religious tolerance, English language and so on. I used to champion the USA because people from all backgrounds and ethnicities mostly regarded themselves as American first and whatever else was secondary. But it’s been eroding over there for some time now and it’s not pretty to see.

That's all very true. In America to become an American citizen, amongst other things you had to swear obedience to the US constitution. Over here I think some of those immigrants would be more likely to swear AT our constitution! Over there also you had to prove your moral good character. Here, some of those coming here have no morals at all. As far as religious tolerance goes, their view is that it's not up for discussion of any sort! Need I go on....?

My issue with this is`nt the immigration, we should be helping each other, my issue is the quantity, afterall, we are only a small island compared to the rest of the world.
One thing that has really annoyed me over the years and certainly the last few months, is one of the things i saw that was shown on the BBC a couple of weeks back when they spoke to one father who was in France after spending 3 years on `the road` trying to get here. During that 3 years on the road, his kid count had actually grown by 3 i think it was and i could believe it. Another instance is the ad currently running about the humanitarian crisis in Syria with all the starving kids over there that are dying. When i watch the ad, it`s full of kids ranging from a few months to around 3-5 which just blows my mind, because that war has been going on for 6 years or more, which means most of these kids have been born in the middle of it. I`m not sure what it is in both instances, but sometimes i think as human beings, we really need to take a long hard look in the mirror, because what kind of human being brings kids into a world where there`s war and you`ve been on the road for 3 years trying to get to another country!
Personally, i think all the rich nations of the world should be helping these countries to deal with their issues, so that these poor people don`t need to do what their doing in the first place, we need to get our priorites right, we won`t find them on Mars 🙂
