So, what gets up your hooter ? What makes your hackles rise, so much so that even just thinking about it, practically induces an apoplectic fit ? Could be anything, a news item, something you encounter in everyday life, drivers/driving, work/housework, public transport, politics/politician, a TV programme, teenagers, a certain commodity or product, a celebrity, mode of dress, a sport, social media sites, mobile phone users, advertising, tattoos, the weather, tin rattlers, technology, bad service, modern architecture, overuse of the word 'amazing', certain music, user manuals, call centres, a neighbour, anything at all that gets you all steamed up.
They say just letting vent on paper has a cathartic effect. Dusty Springfield, when something annoyed her, would buy a bag full of cheap crockery from Woollies, and smash it all individually up against the wall. Now I'm not advocating going to that extreme - anyway Woollies shops are no more - but unbutton your waistcoat, loosen your stays, and just put it all down in typeface on here. You'll feel much better for it. Honest.
Please Note. Be mindful of the Board rules and regulations. No foul language please.
Go...

As you acknowledge, one couldn't make a wooden computer, so you Greens wouldn't be able to post in a Green environment.
Would that be a good thing?
I was trying to make a serious statement about my concerns, you're just being silly.

I'm not being silly. You said you wanted to ban all plastics.
If all plastics were banned, we'd have no computers.

Sorry, yes..in Scotland they are not allowed to give away bags.
we would lose a lot more than computers if we banned plastic, and since it is a by product of oil refining, would we still not have a problem of what to do with it?
A bit like fluoride, a waste product they need to find a use for and justify pouring into the water by telling everyone it is good for teeth. The only 'medicine' I know that is doled out regardless of age, size, weight of individuals , or amount consumed. Wonder how my kids managed to reach ages 30s and 40s without fillings, drinking only natural water off the hill.

You're right about the fluoride. It isn't put into water to make our teeth stronger.
Rather, it's put in to make our brains weaker. You can see the evidence of this by googling on many websites.

The thing is - why would politicians want to put fluoride into our drinking-water.

You're reading far more into my posts than I'm actually saying, I didn't say anywhere that I wanted to ban all plastics. Like I said and Lynda reiterated it's an industrial by-product and as such it could be put to far better use than we currently make of it. I have no problem with using it to make computers, nor do I have a problem with it being used in place of metal in many areas of car manufacture because as a by-product that we have a ready supply of, it's far more environmentally friendly than digging more ores out of the ground. What I object to is making plastic bags and packaging materials which do nothing but add to landfill and the way we dispose of it elsewhere which is causing huge ocean pollution problems.
There is a floating island of this stuff in the middle of the Pacific that has been circulating for decades now, most of it is discarded waste from the US and Japan and jetsam from container ships. Piece by piece it is being slowly broken down by photo-degradation ie the action of sunlight and is polluting the oceans and everything in it. These micro plastics have been found in the guts of fish, sea birds and most ocean going mammals and ultimately humans as end consumers. Take a handful of sand from anywhere from the deepest ocean trench to almost any beach on the planet and it will be full of this stuff.
Being concerned about this does not make me some deranged tree hugger, I fail to see how anyone can not find this worrying for the planet's future. Like I said in a previous post, at a cellular level we are all one, if we destroy the planet we destroy ourselves.
Here are a couple of links for anyone interested.

Because they don't know what else to do with it. They can't put it in rivers as it is a recognised poison but to admit they are wrong to add it to drinking water would unleash lawsuits.

The beep-beep noise made by reversing vehicles. It needs to be heard for a radius of about 3 metres, but the volume is set so it can be heard 2 miles away!

What annoys me is the number of programmes on the TV depicting families of "low earning" families, or groups of people but they all seem to have 3 or 4 dogs, cats, huge TVs. Four sets of nose rings and similar types of piercings and the like. Then they have 4 or 5 kids from various fathers none of whom are in view and each family or group are claiming all the money that God sends to avoid paying monies out from their own beer money. Oh, and then it takes an hour to count out every tattoo they have on their arms, necks and faces. And you and I are paying for a all these bums.

People who walk behind a reversing car.
Cyclists.
The number of programmes appearing, carefully edited to demonise anyone receiving benefits.

The ad that starts 'you gain so much with age', no idea what it's for, makes me want to put my foot through the TV.
23-08-2015 11:00 AM
And the Ad with the couple off abroad seeking travel insurance, " with his blood pressure and my Bunions". Who thinks them up?
