This week-end is a major holiday in France. Everybody who possibly can do so, has gone home to their home commune this week-end. It is the festival of ‘ancestors’ when you put chrysanthemums on the graves of your ancestors – and gorge yourself on huge family celebration meals. Everywhere is running on a skeleton staff; most businesses just give up and close altogether – a bit like Christmas in England.
Five students in Bordeaux, who apparently didn’t have families to go home to, took themselves off for a celebration meal in Bordeaux, followed by a nightclub. They had rather too much to drink, unusually for the French. On their way home, they passed a circus, and noticed a Llama tied to a post. Waiting for the late night tram, an idea occurred to them, as it does – they’d take the Llama home with them.

It took the tram driver several stops to realise that one of his passengers had neglected to pay his fare…..and he used his intercom to call for reinforcements. The police arrived, and after several false starts and much chaos, managed to persuade the Llama to leave the tram.By which time, naturally, our five students had vanished…
So the Police tied the Llama to a bus stop…

The circus owners were busy chasing a zebra which had escaped when the Llama was liberated, and were not amused to be presented with the problem of getting said Llama back home from several miles away without using the tram, at 3am….
The students were finally arrested in the Place de la Comedie….
