As Remembrance Day approaches, we see lots of volunteers selling poppies and other items for the British Legion. I have also seen people selling knitted home made poppies. I am a little concerned about this. Can anyone tell me if this is legal..for instance, does one have to get some sort of licence to sell poppies. Maybe I shouldn't be concerned, but when I donate to the poppy appeal, I would like to know that my donation is going to the right people. I hope someone might be able to clarify things.

I have just bought a crocheted one at our drama club, made by the sister of someone I know well, and I know the money is going to the right charity. I didn't ask about licenses, as I trust the family, so I can't answer that part of your question.

What I find more worrying is the emergence of white poppies, I am not certain who benefits from the sale of these however I do know that they fly in the face of everything that the poppy stands for. I have been told that the white poppy is to represent all the innocent victims of conflict which is laudable, but I sense an attempt by the usual suspects to denigrate all that those who perished have their lives for. During the war they were called conscientious objectors, now they go by the name of stop the war coalition and others who spend so much time and effort putting down everything this country once stood for!! Rant Over😩👍

Perhaps I misunderstood, but I thought the white poppies were to represent peace.
I don't know about licences, but if the sale was a charity listing I don't see what's wrong with that. But if the listing wasn't a charity listing, or it just mentioned the charity in the description, I wouldn't buy. No one except the british legion should profit from poppies.
that said, I've not seen a single poppy seller anywhere yet. (not counting ebay) They usually have them in our local supermarkets, but not so far this year.

I live n a small town, but despite actively searching for a poppy seller or even just a tray and collection tin on a counter, I have not seen a single poppy in the whole of the town. I'm hoping to go to the neighbouring, slightly larger town, tomorrow so maybe I can find a poppy there. Yes, I could have volunteered to sell poppies but sadly health has prevented this.
