Re: Oscars 2016

For a moment I thought you said "Did the white people win" Man Surprised Overall not a bad list, Not sure the revenant warranted such high praise but Leo had waited a long time.

Thanks for asking btw, not sure many on here watch films and most visits are by Lurkers, It does not have to be that way but hey ho!

Re: Oscars 2016

Probably the right people did win, but isn't it a shame that a film awards ceremony has to be hijacked by anyone and everyone who has a political, human rights or environmental gripe, so they can have a good whinge and draw attention to themselves. Why can't the winners just say 'Thank you very much for this award...I will treasure it'.

Well apart for Best Song - Yes

That caterwaul from Sam Smith - Spectre, is unlistenable

This song from Spotlight should have won that Oscar

She is an abuse sufferer herself, so her performance at the Oscars was very powerful

The Children who join her on stage also are real victims

Totally agree, awful song, - think he's gay, he's said it enough times, its getting boring now! - and I didn't think much of the film either! Utter carp and instantly forgettable!

Re: Oscars 2016

Can't really comment on the merit of any of the films as I haven't seen any of them yet. Agree about the Sam Smith song though, a dreadful bleddy noise.

Couldn't agree more, Astro some of those speeches are just cringey.

They can't though, can they ? They have to drone on endlessly, thanking everyone from the old dear who comes round with the tea trolley, to the bloke operating the clapper board. These Award ceremonies are just an excuse for the  'luvvies' and the like to preen, pose, and postulate.

The great non events of the year.

Re Sam Smith. Don't they all caterwaul nowadays ? You could play three tracks from three different vocalists (male or female) and you'd swear it was the same artiste, singing the same song. No beat, no rhythm, no style, just a dirge-like litany of shrieks and wails. At one point you could tell who a singer was as soon as he or she sang the first note, but not any more. They're all tourists from the clone zone.

Yes, Leo & Ennio Morricone's were both well overdue - imo LDC should've won for The Wolf of Wall St.

The Reverent is a cracking film - the scene with the attack, the horse, and the cliff was phenomenal.

Doh. *The Revenant.  Not sure you'd like it. Probably not enough burning crosses for your liking. 😉

No....I didn't like it.  Too much cruelty and violence. But there you go...some people seem to like those things.
