One-way trip to Mars. Any takers here?

Fancy a one-way trip to Mars?  Not my cup of tea, but there have already been 165,000 applications. Smiley Surprised

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/a-oneway-ticket-too-tempting-to-ignore-165000-apply-for-mi...

I can't think of any good things about living on a barren planet inside a space station for the rest of one's days, but only of all the things I would miss about living on Earth and being able to exist outside in our atmosphere. Apart from those who may have a genuine pioneer spirit, is this how far some people will go to be 'famous'?  Or, perhaps they have had enough of life here; or perhaps they hope that before too long they will be able to generate fuel on Mars to get home.

Anyone here like the sound of it? There is still a week left to get your application in Smiley LOL

I'm happy in my little house with my little family and pets and my little garden, growing my veggies.

I don't even like Sci-Fi stories - takes me out of my comfort zone

Hi pixel xx  Yes, I'm fine thanks, hope you are too.

I like Sci-Fi movies, but definitely wouldn't want to be incarcerated in a large metal box for decades. There wouldn't even be any pleasure in eating as I suppose everything would be vaccuum packed, unless there was an allotment on board!

BY eck, did none of you go camping with mates or go abroad or even worked away? who knows whats on Mars, we view the planet with our space craft and rovers, they can only "see" a percentage, its the percent they cannot see thats the challange. so ok the average temprature is around-60c the atmosphere is just about a percent of earths and is mostly CO2, and the planets year is twice that of Earths. i dare say you wont live in a tent, but a manufactured  city sized complex with all the mod cons, the main difference would be gravity, you would weigh less on the surface of Mars excellent news for all you wieght watchers out there instant wieght loss. Dry ice (frozen CO2) could be heated to give O2 and H2 and with that H20 so fuel water and oxygen are all available. the only thing i say you would have to be choosey on is the company ie male or female or whatever, it would be no good if you are a straight person M/F having a none straight partner M/F but there again taking a mass murderer would be a bummer as well, as in space no one can hear you scream...................can they?

I dare say the buying would be ok, the delivery would pose a problem though.
