Most people classed as being in poverty 'have a job'

For the 1st time ever -

More working households were living in poverty in the UK last year than non-working ones - f, a charity has reported.

Just over half of the 13 million people in poverty - surviving on less than 60% of the national median (middle) income - were from working families, it said.

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation said low pay and part-time work had prompted an unprecedented fall in living standards.

But it said the number of pensioners in poverty was at a 30-year low.

Ministers insisted that work remained the best route out of poverty and said the government's welfare reforms would further encourage people to get a job.

Now one of the measures, that was being brought in to combat this, is being held up, because it's a mess and almost unworkable, but the cuts that will be replaced by UC are still being  carried out - On the Day of Osbornes  'Autumn Statement', Iain Duncan Smith sneaked out a statement telling everyone that UC would be delayed for a few more years- anyone would think He tried to bury it, under Osbornes full blown coverage. Remember it was only in late September that IDS promised us that , even though they'd slashed the numbers in the pilot schemes, the full implementation was well on track, with no further problems investigated.

Shouldn't the Government get the safety net (UC) in place before, their further attacks and cuts on Welfare

and don't come moaning about shirkers, because as has been said MOST welfare now goes to WORKING people.

Universal credit and it's real time wage reporting should have enabled people who want to work to get themselves paid work whenever, whatever they can and be better off and not have their benefits messed up.  The idea was to make work pay, have a simpler, more efficient system and make work pay.

However a dream from IDS, designed by monthly paid Civil servants, implemented by monthly paid public sector workers whose jobs are at risk is certainly going to struggle.  Paying benefits etc monthly on UC fatally flaws the system for the very people it is supposed to help.

It is certainly no surprise to me that working people are probably worse off than benefits people in many cases.

its a bit extrmee usuing a word like "poverty "  in modern Britian

How do you reconcile it with the obesity crisis ? (are all the fat ones middle class )

I would suggest if you dont work hard at school , and while away your time glued to a screen , be it tv or "games " , then you are going to be "poor " , its inevitable .

Nor should you be anything else ,

When you see the educational standars in China , and the intelligent young people it produces , just how are you going to counter that ?

And whatever you say is China going to accpet it ?

Can you imagine David Cameron saying

"yes we know you have 200 million aspiring middle class people who work 13 hours a day to attain your goals , but you eat nothing but rice before , so why dont you stick to it , and leave all the "meat " for my "Wayne and Waynetta " population , who cant work , cant do anyfink , but eat , sleep and loung about "

I been 12 years on ebay and had 1000's of sales and I trust people more than ever now
