Could be Oscar Wilde or from Tales of Unexpected.
It is about a married man working as council toilet cleaner, but loses job when council finds out he cant read or write.
He then opens a newsagents shop with his wife and becomes successful.
Does anyone recognise the scenario and know the title please.
There could be more than one film or play based on the same subject.
Just found Tales of the Unexpected, Series 9, Episode 4, entitled The Verger with Richard Briers and Patricia Routledge.
I remember another one, similar story, but with an illiterate Council Toilet Cleaner, losing job and opening a newsagents shop.
It is an old one in black and white.
