Happy Birthday Margie.
Behave and keep out of trouble.
It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
Live long and prosper.

Well I know she's not going to behave. You won't believe what she did yesterday?
She ran off with a very handsome man.
It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
Live long and prosper.

Oooo, a Magpie?
One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl
And four for a boy.
It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
Live long and prosper.

Wanâs sorrae, twaâs mirth,
Threeâs a waddin, fowerâs a birth,
Fiveâs a kirstenin, sax a dearth,
Seivenâs welth, aicht is heal, < pronounced Hel as in health
an nineâs the, deevil hes ane selâ
---
There is a twist in that -
Sorrae means sorrow -
It is also another name for the Deevil
That's Why We ALWAYS Bow and greet the Little Gentleman

The thing is, just HOW many Magpies have you seen together?
It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
Live long and prosper.

Thank you for that Al! I have never heard that version before. I did some paintings based on the verse that most people know, so now I'm going to have to do another one! Your poem has a nice ring to it, and it looks good as the written word too. I just love magpies...there are lots where I live, so I probably have seen seven at one time.

WE have loads - I have seen two flocks facing off - well over 20 each -
that was just after I'd taught my daughter the verses, She asks whats next
I have an understanding with the Heid gadgie (I think the present one is the 3rd)
He brings His Clan I feed them - No one ever bothers them
They don't move if I walk about
They bring the Young to back door to get Cat treats
I always bow
A Couple of Hundred years ago - I would have been drowned (we didn't Burn Witches etc)

I have to find a really dark version
I have a copy of that somewhere

A song for Your paintings
You may know it as 'Two Crows'
These Germans are singing a version they picked up in Scotland

Awww..that's great Al! I never heard that before either. Some inspiration there! It reminds me of Steeleye Span...I have always loved their music.
