How do you pronounce the word Subaru?
Do you say "Soo-bah-roo" or is it "Soo-bar-oo" with emphasis on the "bar"?
For an on-going thread, what other words can you think of which have questionable or alternative pronunciations?

Mischievious is generally held to be an alternative spelling of mischievous from around as long ago as the 1500s.
In those days, and for quite some time after, spelling was a bit of a free for all and it's said that even Shakespeare often spelt his surname in different ways.

And finally - the pronounciation of Subaru is none of the above because of the U ending in Japanese.
It's really not quite pronounced at all, rather cut off short so it's like a cross between a very short er and uh.
So if you want to really really say it just right, here's one I found for you with some other car names thrown in for good measure which I'm sure you will enjoy watching, over and over again in an attempt to get your pronounciation just perfect.

If anyone can remember the TV 1970s adverts for the Romaian built Dacia when it was called a Day-see-ya.Then try going into a Dacia car? Sales and shout! I want to buy that Day-see-ya Duster! By the looks the sales staff give you? You would have thought you used the F word! With them all running around to correct your pronunciation to Datt-cha? Hoping no one would associate that name with there past history.
