Hi,
6 weeks ago I purchased a new Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. Not impressed with the Photos app (especially for Photo editing) I downloaded 'Gimp' photo editor, which was good but I uninstalled it a week later as I had mellowed towards the Photos App & also because I believed it would serve my purpose (Wrong!).
I now find that I do need 'Gimp' but when I reinstall it it doesn't open - Any ideas?
I am of the Older pre 'I.T.' generation & unlike a lot of my contemporaries I am not very 'I.T.' literate, so any advice given please, please make it simple.
Thanks

Thanks 'petal' no joy with your link - Have tried to reinstall several times & they show as being installed, however they only partly open (side bits missing) with no link to bring my pics in for edit. I'd show a screenshot here but can't see a link to do it.
Weird because I downloaded fully operational 'Gimp' a few weeks ago without any probs. (Maybe they're in the 'Huff' with me )
P.S: After each faulty install I always uninstall before trying again - Think I'll look for another photo editor, any recommendations? (Photo Shop a bit too advanced for me & my basic needs).
Off to bed now (long day) - Thanks again

I'm not sure whether the applications opens at all, or just some parts don't appear
You could check the top menu, though im not familiar with the package, it likely has a 'view' option and on their confirm the various items
eg toolbox, palettes etc are checked, otherwise they may not appear even though by default most do to start with
Check the version you are using is appropriate for W10, and that your download is ok, preferable the vendors website
You could try an earlier or different version for W10 and test that - avoid beta versions
If you haven't already, I suggest downloading again from a reputable site

Thanks 'al**bear' & to all who have very kindly reponded to my post.
'befunky' l@@ks good with excellent reviews but will it allow me to add text to my pics? If so, & keeping in mind that I only have very basic 'IT' knowledge, do you think it is fairly easy for a novice to use?
Windows Photos does most that I want except adding text (which I need).
Thanks again all .

Yes you can add text to a photo using BeFunky.
Upload your Image/Photo. Then from LHS, select "A" (2nd from bottom).
This will allow you to add text...
The following youtube video may help, click on the following link:-

I don't use BeFunky, but just tried it on one Image from my computer and works ok. adding text.

Thanks 'oxieman' it's appreciated - I've just given it a test but when I insert a capital 'B' it shows as '3' .
I'll give it another try tomorrow.
Thanks again .

I'm a 'silly-billy' - I've just worked out (with some trial & error) how to add Text to images using Windows 10 'Photos'.
I'm going to start a New Thread for anyone interested.
Thanks to all who reponded to this thread

@ benbrody: I have used Gimp for a number of years and it's an excellent professional and semi-professional program, often called the free Photoshop. But it takes time to get your head around all the wide range of functions, which are not always arranged very logically. I wouldn't recommend it as a first image editor for somebody new to image editing.
There are many free image editors around, but my personal recommendation would be Irfanview. I have used it for years, and despite its name, it's an excellent free image editor, and it's easy to find your way around its many, but not overwhelming, functions. It has a good easy to use text insert function. After you have downloaded and installed the main program, you can download an additional plugins package for extra functions. There are a number of Irfanview tutorials on YouTube:
(choose either 32bit or 64 bit according to your computer's specifications)

Hope that helps.
Have you managed to open your re-installed Gimp yet?

Thanks 'baybiz' - I've work out a way to add 'Text' with installed Windows 10 'Photos' (I've just started a new thread explaining how).
So I'm a 'Happy Bunny' (well for the time being anyway)
Thanks for taking the time to respond, it's appreciated!
PS: Not able to reinstall 'Gimp' & I don't really care, now that I can add text on 'Photos'.
