Dunno, off topic I guess but do you recall railway embankments being referred to as "The Batters"?
Reason for asking was that I was thinking of Summer.... then thought of the fires which often broke out near the lines and I thought of my mother who was brought up in a crossing keepers lodge and I remember her saying that often "The Batters would be afire".....

AFAIK they were referred to as "The Batters" (in the plural) when there was an embankment on both sides of the tracks.
