A few years back, there was a fashion for ripping up the Tarmac and laying bricks on the roads and pavements in the towns. Now, the fashion seems to be to rip all that up and replace all the bricks with "pavers? :-

It seems that similar pavers are being laid in the town here too.

Are any being laid in your town?

Who is it that promotes these schemes? Who gives them the go-ahead? How is the cost justified?

Can anyone tell me how such things are "better" than Tarmac? Tarmac is more convenient to walk on, is more easily laid and should there ever be a need to access any pipes/cables under the roads, Tarmac is easy to reinstate.

OK, so many towns now have their pipes/cables in ducts which are easier to get to but you still need an access point but they're usually at the extremities of a long length?

The new pattern of pavers on part of Taff Street in Pontypridd has created an "optical illusion", disguising the drop to road level, locals say.

It has led to a series of trips, mainly for elderly people, according to a shop manager who has helped many of them.

Rhondda Cynon Taf council said the regeneration had made streets safer.

Our council laid expensive paving stones in a fancy pattern in the High Street, and it's forever being lifted for work to be done. Their latest bright idea is "Shared Space", which means no kerbs or proper crossings. The idea is that motorists and pedestrians can "mingle".
