Covid-19.

Reading and listening to the news reports about the spread of the virus, the common denominator seems to be travel?

Surely if travel was halted until the incidences of the virus have "died down", the spread to other countries wouldn't happen?

Covid-19.

Got a stinking cold but no fever - still feel fit in myself and no problem breathing but do have a cough.

I'm fairly certain it is just a cold but I'd love to be sure which is impossible without some form of testing.

Anyway I'm locked in at home with my wife, which is causing a problem as she is a care worker and is now also self-isolating.

Hi Harry, good to see you, hope you and yours are well? As you can see the geriatrics table is still chugging along but most are worried about what the future holds! We all have to go some time if only we could get a grip of that fact the easier it would be. Such a drama is being made out of this situation yet it pales into insignificance when put alongside malaria, the yellow jack, etc etc. But these days we know how to make a drama out of a crisis.

Another link regarding the virus.

Now then, people have sadly died due to this virus but..... if those people had caught whatever strain of Flu is doing the rounds over last Winter/this Spring, would they have died anyway?

Possibly they would have succumbed to the flu virus had they caught it - which is unlikely though as they would be in the prIority group for the flu jab.

Covid-19 is likely to be around for many years to come, if not indefinitely, however once a vaccine is available it won't be any bigger a problem than flu is presently.

By that reckoning, is Covid-19 any more of a killer than the flu is?

As time goes on, those same people (the survivors) will be in the priority group for the Covid-19 jab?

I don't think anyone is suggesting that Covid-19 won't be defeated and in time, when a vaccine is available, it won't be any more of a threat than flu or measles.

It's the current period, where we have no defence against it, that is the problem - so yes, currently Covid-19 is a bigger killer and threat than flu.

The thing is... the flu jab protects agains three "versions" of the virus so if a different version became prevalent, there'd be no protection so therefore Covid-19 is a "nastier" virus, more so than a version of the flu for which those that've had "the jab" have no protection.

That said, a version of the flu for which there's no protection would make those in the priority group just as exposed as anyone else.

I think the information that is going out is ambiguous and not that clear. They confused people at first by telling them not to go to the pub, but still they left pubs open - what did they expect would happen? I understand the logic in trying to keep the economy going but it is in immediate conflict with the appeal to not go to the pub.

Then they say stay at home but get exercise - so people go for a walk in the country or parks, as long as they stay 2 meters apart, there should be no problem. That is the government advice.

They say there is enough food - don't panic, well the shops don't have it on the shelves so people panic! My daughter works at M&S and she is beginning to panic because there are no deliveries coming in - that was yesterday so she is now panicking.

The reality is we don't have enough hospital beds - less than Italy and no matter how much money we push into the NHS you will never be able to cope in a situation like this.

Ive heard one person who had this virus and was supposedly getting better, she was young and fit. I have to say it was frightening, not nice to listen to. So maybe it would be better to put together a TV commercial to show young people what this virus does, show someone with the virus - at that point young people would grow a pair and start to understand the implications of catching the virus.

After all we still do not know the after efffects of having had the virus!

Your daughter works in M&S and because a delivery did not arrive she is panicking !

Well let me enlighten you, drivers are legally only allowed to drive a certain amount of hours and because of all this panic buying might have had their wagon loaded with only enough for two stores instead of the normal three or four, so instead of managing to get around all those stores they only manage two because of panic buying and by the time they get back to the depot they have run out of drivers hours, therefore deliveries are later than normal.

Strange is it not that in normal times lots of people complain about lorries being on the road but when people cannot get something as simple as toilet paper they complain about shelves being empty and who brings those goods to a shop ! A LORRY ! Give us a chance !!!!

Practice "social distancing" they say?

Just been for my usual walk round and instead of there being just the odd few dog walkers there's dozens of people wandering around or hanging about in close groups.

They're mostly relatively young people laughing and gossiping all over the paths as if there's no tomorrow. (Ooops, did I say ignorant too?)

Instead of 1 - 3 cars on the car park there's 18.

Just an observation but why are many young women like the side of a house?? open_mouth
