As you've bought them from a business seller I would have thought as part of their customer service they could send you two replacements FOC.

Do they mention in their TOS anything about the buyer paying return postage? If they do, then you have to comply with their TOS but if they don't, then I think it's up to them to pay for it.

If the goods are faulty, legally the seller has to pay regardless of their T&Cs.

The seller is an idiot, the only thing they have to gain is a big fat neg.

Buying an item that has a arrived part broken

Hi there,

I have no idea what 46 knobs look like nor how heavy 2 of them may be. Door knobs, perchance?

How heavy can they be? Is having 46 of them in good working order so very important and if so, may I say that you should maybe have planned ahead for any "Damage in transit" and bought a few extra.

But then again, maybe the seller should have wrapped them better.

OK, back to the nitty-gritty of if you should pay half of the postage costs to return the damaged ones. IMHO, yes. You could say that the seller is legally bound to pay the postage but, honestly, is it worth the hassle? How much is half the postage anyway? A couple of quid? Another point. If you had gone to a local shop and said, "Please may I have 46 knobs" Apart from getting a very strange look, would you have had to pay more than you paid your seller? Are the 44 that are in good nick of the quality that you expected? If so, pay the postage and be done with it.

Far too many sellers get away with not dealing properly with buyers because 'it is too much hassle' for the buyer to do anything about it.

No doubt that was Asda's thinking when they refused to reimburse the delivery charge when they only delivered half an order, not the best idea, it cost them £45 instead of £5.
