I was watching the adolescent show Blockbusters on television where the late Bob Holness fired quick fire questions at the youngsters. He is normally so composed but on one particular sho pandemonium broke out over one of the questions that was asked.
Bob asked a fifteen year-old girl; "What S is made in the dark when you're not sure of the consequences." The answer was SHOT - a shot in the dark. What did this poor girl say?
"Sex." Thunderous applause went up. Even Bob Holness dropped half the question cards on the floor.
"Yes, you could be right, but it's not the answer we're after!" he replied, tears of laughter streaming down his face. It took a clear fifteen minutes to restore order. Neither that poor girl, or Bob Holness, for that matter, ever lived it down. She became an unwanted overnight sensation.

I once heard Bob Holness drop a clanger when he hosted a request programme on the World Service.
A Mr and Mrs White from Harare asked for a song just before Christmas and Bob quipped that they would be the only things white in Harare that Christmas.
